Ayurvedic Retreats
Ayurveda taken seriously means a consultation with a physician, a prescription that changes as the days pass, and a stay of a week at minimum, usually two for panchakarma. India and Sri Lanka hold the deepest bench, with a handful of Balinese and European centres working to the same structure. A resort selling an hour of warm oil is not this. We look for resident Ayurvedic doctors, therapists who have been there for years, a kitchen cooking to each prescription rather than a set menu, and clear information about what a course involves before you book. Every description of a tradition here is the property's own account of it.
